Heavy blasting at Chloorkop facility
Having heard more blasts than usual this week, Marcel Dippenaar, a resident of Buccleuch, has written a letter to AECI, the Chloorkop Facility.
Dear Sir/Madam,
I wish to bring to your attention that large sequential blasts have been set off at your Chloorkop facility in recent days. This may be your prerogative on your property, but I need to make you aware that these blasts have shockwaves well in excess of that allowed under environmental laws and regulations. They are causing serious vibration in homes throughout Buccleuch, and may as a result of the surface shockwaves also cause structural damage (similar to what the quarry caused about 10 years ago). This, as well as glass damage due to the airborne shockwaves, could very well result in significant damage claims levelled against your company.
The “melodious” blasts to test ignitors etc generally cause no problems, as the shockwaves tend to cancel each other, or they are not of the same magnitude. The large spaced blasts on the other hand create heavy shockwaves and these are the issue at hand.
Please inform me of your intentions in this matter.
Sincerely yours
Marcel Dippenaar
