SUPPORT THE CLEANUP PROJECT
Our WhatsApp groups, Facebook, and emails are rife with concerns and complaints about the state of Buccleuch, especially around the river.
Buccleuch resident Remo Torrente has proposed a weekend project to clean up Buccleuch.
The project has the support of BRACe and BSC, and we urge you to get involved, either personally or by providing financial support.
The Project
Details are on the attached Word document, but in brief Remo is proposing:
22 April: A clean-up day for Buccleuch Drive from the circle to the Margaret avenue junction
23 April: A clean-up day for Bridge road from Muller street to Allison road
This will include 50m on either side of the bridge adjacent to the river (Buccleuch driver and Bridge Road).
What will be provided
Remo will provide:
- 8-ton Crane truck and 1-ton sugar bags to pick up rubble, rubbish, tree stumps and dirt can be placed in bags and the truck can lift them onto itself, and transport to an approved dump site. The bags can filled easily and picked up with the crane truck making the operation faster.
- 4 Ton truck to carry tools and equipment.
- Core drilling machine to install lockable bollards on Buccleuch drive going up to the river adjacent to the highway. Bollards will have stickers with contact details so they can be opened for legitimate ingress.
- Brush cutter (1 available - need 3 more)
- Mini Breaker to remove spilled concrete on the roads
- Road cones and red flags
- Dust masks
- 4x lockable steel removable Bollards – with locks
- Quickset concrete for installation of Bollards
What we need
- Generator to operate core drilling equipment and mini breakers (small diesel / petrol genrator. Remo can fetch and return).
- Brush Cutters – Petrol driven (1 available – at least 3 heavy duty type PREFERABLY WITH THE STEEL BLADE)
- Petrol canisters for above (1 available – at least 3 needed)
- Elbow length rubber gloves (12 pairs available – more needed depending on turnout)
- Stickers for bollards (needed, if anyone can make these I will give them the artwork)
- Lunch packs for those who can’t get involved in the on the ground work (please donate)
- Spades, wood saws, and any garden implement to remove dirt and overgrowth from sidewalks (as many as possible)
- Cash to hire what we can't source.
WE NEED PEOPLE TO MAKE IT HAPPEN
The project needs you, your gardener if you can’t make it, or pledge some cash and Remo will hire casual staff. He needs at least R200 per casual worker per day.
If Remo has 20 able bodies for the two days, we can have a great impact. Any cash left over will be split between those who pledged and returned. Remo will issue you with a receipt and a recon FOR ANY CASH OR EQUIPMENT YOU LOAN TO THIS INITIATIVE.
