Public Safety Awareness: Smash and Grab Incidents - Witkoppen Road

Sandton CPF has been made aware of frequent smash and grab incidents in peak traffic hours (morning and evening) along or near Witkoppen Rd from Sunninghill to Paulshof areas.

It has been reported that suspects identify potential victims by looking into vehicles from the pavements, road shoulders, centre islands or between stationary traffic on these roads. In many cases, suspects run to a waiting getaway vehicle after robbing victims.

The following areas have been reported as hotspots:

- Bowling Road and Witkoppen Road vicinity, Sunninghill;

- N1 bridge and Rivonia Road, Rivonia - all intersections in vicinity, including Rivonia Road and Witkoppen Road intersection;

- Achter Road and Witkoppen Road, Paulshof. Including the N1 North offramp;

- Witkoppen Road FROM Cambridge Road intersection to Estelle Road intersection, Paulshof.

Incidents are not only limited to the immediate are around the intersection itself, but have also occurred many meters away in the general area due to traffic build up.

Sandton CPF urges all commuters along these routes to be vigilant at all times.
Keep all valuable items, including phones, tablets, handbags, laptop bags, jewellery, and other personal effects out of sight. Unless in absolute emergencies, do not use cellphones while driving or in traffic.
