Kelvin And Buccleuch Domestic Watch

Domestics are the eyes and ears of our neighbourhood. Some 2000 domestics from 50 suburbs meet monthly to learn how to prevent crime and protect themselves, their families, friends, neighbours and employers. Domestics, gardeners, security staff, employers, and anyone else who wants to fight back against crime are welcome to attend the meetings. The Kelvin and Buccleuch Domestic Watch holds meetings on the last Thursday of each month.

We have a wonderful offer from Nicky Lowe and a suggestion

I took our domestic helper to this morning's MAD session and noted very few folk from Buccleuch. I will happily give two (or three smaller) folk a lift from Buccleuch next month if you know of folk who are interested but lack transport. The sessions are most worthwhile and I hope to see more Buccleuch presence going forward. With enough support, we could arrange a local taxi to make this a monthly part of his route.

I am happy to help out in the mornings with things like this that will build our community.

If you are interested to take Nicky up on her wonderful offer then please contact her :

January Lesson: Our first lesson will be marginally longer than the usual one hour.  A great deal of material will be covered to open this lesson and prepare all for future lessons during the balance of the year.  I will cover “Critical Information for All Households” to be kept in the house for any emergency, “Know Your Neighbour” comes with some actual stories of how the neighbour saved the day.  DON’T MISS this lesson.  The intention is to have a major paradigm shift in all who attend with a view to them becoming an integral part of the crime challenge.  They are and always will be treated royally and with love and care.  ALL EMPLOYERS are welcomed, I have had many say “Gee I learned so much from you Penny”

22 February 2018 at 10h00 Our Topic: “Habits and Routines to Avert Crime”
This lesson is jam packed with such important crime prevention tips, criminals patrol our streets, observation of victims continues right up until they are ready to commit crime.  The criminals ARE WATCHING US and ascertained their targets in advance.  They love to attack during the day when domestics and gardeners are in and out of the property, when alarms are off, we have to equip employees with an abundance of “One Step Ahead” of the criminals new habits and routines to avoid them and the home owners from being attacked.  The written lesson handout is comprehensive, PLEASE read this with your employee and ask them what they learned.  The stories to enhance the lesson are not in the handout.

Our lesson this month is “Crime Prevention Essentials”. It will be an interactive discussion with those that have been attending for a number of years. I will get them to recall what they might remember or remind them what they might have forgotten, there is no excuse for forgetting crime prevention essentials. Many aspects of a collection of lessons will be covered as some have never attended some of these topic lessons so new folk, or those that started lessons this year of course will learn loads from this lesson. The stories that they share with me on how they “saved the day” due to learning these lessons or if newly attending how they became a victim are staggering, both good and bad, I get loads of awesome stories every month. Aspects of importance in these discussions will be:
How knowing your neighbour can save them or themselves and their employers from crime occurring.
Habits and routines that are going to keep them safer if adhered to.

Who is attacking the properties or public space contact crimes and what to do, new and old methods used by criminals will be covered.

September 2017 at 11h30 Lesson: “Money Matters”. Heritage Month lesson has an abundance of guidelines on money crimes. Some are money lenders that can lead to dangers that can spill into employer’s homes; money scams, cell phone, computer and ATM crimes are abundant. Busi Skenjana writes “Stokvel Voice” and runs an academy to school those that hereditary invest in stokvels. Whilst this is considered the core cradle of the UBUNTO values there are so many money dangers. It only takes one disgruntled member of these groups who often gather in public spaces to cause a calamity, this would include being followed to their employers homes and attacking. This lesson covers good practices, investing wisely and implementing safeguards to prevent crimes. There are 11.4 million Stokvel members with a total estimated value of R44 billion, surely some of this can contribute to a better South Africa if managed wisely and not create crime.
October 2017 at 11h30 October Lesson: “First Aid - What to do in a medical emergency”.  There is an abundant amount of critically important information that could and should save a life in any medical emergency if we know what to do.  An extremely comprehensive written lesson is handed to all and I advise employers family or friends to ask the attendees what they learned.

Included in this lesson will be: Before emergency arises; All the Emergency Response Numbers and how to talk to them, Priorities in an Emergency, Tips on Bleeding, Impaled objects, Epilepsy, Fractures, Burns, Choking, Animal bites, Head injury or Alcohol related incidents, Swallowing Poison, Accident Prevention; Accident Management; Accident Response – 1 2 3 – Safety, Security, Call for help; Basic First Aid ABCDE: (Airways, Breathing,  Circulation, Disability, Exposure) First Aid Tips include basics on CPR;  First Aid Kit
